GSS, Nova, Mighty - testdrive

In the first edition of “TestDrive” section, we decided to test auto submitters that are so impotent for TGP posting. A specialist in this business, Immox, was invited to perform this test.

The main purposes of this test were to define convenience in use and distinctive features between three most popular auto submitters. Our aim wasn’t to determine what submitter better or worse over the others but to estimate their possibilities and conveniences.

Immox:

I chose to test 3 most popular auto submitters: GSS, Nova and Mighty. There is an opinion that all submitters are the same, however it is far from true. All of these submitters have pluses and little minuses.

Working with any project usually begins from visiting its official web site and studying the information on it.

I decided to start with my favorite and well-known GS submitter. (www.gssubmission.com) - the site has good design and makes us wish to know more about its offers. On the main page of the site you can read the latest news related to changes made in the project.

Another popular submitter is Mighty. (www.mightysubmitter.com) - a well-done site too.

The last submitter for testing is Nova (www.novasubmitter.com). What do we see on its official site? At first thought it has simple design but very stylish and pleasing to eyes.

Hereafter we will talk about the most necessary and important element of any program - a detailed manual. Let’s start in the abovementioned order i. e. GSS. You can find the manual of this submitter at http://gssubmission.com/help/english/index.html. What can we see in it? It’s obvious that GSS takes a good care about its clients. GS submitter has quality detailed manual with lots of illustrations. Such manual is very helpful to familiarize with a new program. I’d say it’s one of the best manuals I’ve ever seen.

Let’s look at the Mighty manual http://www.mightysubmitter.com/members/index.php?page=manual. It was quite easy to find the Mighty manual than the GSS one and this is a big plus.

Let’s finish our brief review of manuals with the Nova manual. You can find it at http://www.novasubmitter.com/?l=2&id=2. It’s an illustrated manual as a GSS one is and very helpful to learn more about the program.

What is the next step after we bought a program and carefully studied the manual? Right, we start collecting database. Sure thing is that we should check the default database first.

GSS has a number of large databases, while Mighty has just one but a very large and working database (I really liked it). I can’t say anything bad concerning Nova default database but it would be a good idea to expend it. In this case Nova submitter would become more popular because lots of webmasters are lazy to collect their own databases and often use default ones.

Let’s stop talking about default databases now. To be able to meet competition and get much traffic, you have to collect your own unique database which is not easy to do.

It is a customary thing for me to edit GSS database, because I have been working with this program for several years already. I would say it could be quite difficult to do it having no skills at all because of some small nuances. However, you can get to the bottom within couple of hours of careful studying. All the information in GSS is divided into different sections and it’s quite inconvenient to look trough them to find a necessary parameter.

Mighty submitter is very convenient because all the database settings are placed on one page. Thus, you can easily add any TGPs and indicate your partnership accounts. This will significantly ease and speed up the process of editing your database.

I think that developers of Nova submitter came down to the question of adding TGPs too serious. In the section of adding TGPs you may experience information shock because there are a lot of different parameters placed just on 1 page. On the one hand it’s very convenient but on the other hand it is too complicated and without higher education it wouldn’t be that easy. In case you’ve worked with at least one submitter, it won’t be a problem for you to study any of the abovementioned ones. The process of auto-submission is practically the same and you won’t find anything new in the section of adding new TGPs into database of Nova, Mighty, and GS submitters.

The process of making galleries starts right after editing your databases but we won’t talk about it in this article because it doesn’t relate to the work of submitters. We will discuss the interfaces in Nova, Mighty, and GS submitters which differ a lot.

GS submitter opens in a new window browser and has the familiar to everyone interface. Big icons correspond to the main sections, while small icons on the top correspond to different features of the program. Overall, GS submitter has quite convenient interface without any serious drawbacks.

The interface of Mighty submitter is very similar to GSS one. It has the same arrangement of sections on the left and program features on the top. It’s convenient, simple and well-designed.

The Nova submitter interface reminded me the Opera browser. Main sections are placed on the top with subsections opening under them. In my opinion, everyone will find something for themselves in these submitters. Nova has the interface in Russian language and it makes it easier to study it out.

The next step is filling profiles. I don’t think we should discuss this subject in details because almost all profiles are the same and there is no point to compare them. I really like how Mighty submitter has solved the problem with thumbnail sizes. There is a big choice of thumbnail sizes, besides there is an opportunity to add your own ones to the default database.

Let’s talk about the process of gallery generation now. GS submitter has some special features for this but I’ve never used them. It’s quite difficult operation to set paths to the galleries in case you haven’t read the manual and haven’t used other submitters before.

I really like the process of gallery generation in Mighty submitter because it’s simple and clear. Before generation the program will show how the recips were distributed among groups and only after it will generate galleries. Basically, the process of generation in Migty submitter is similar to the one in GSS but much easier to understand.

I was really pleased with the Nova submitter. I figured out how the generator works in a short time because all necessary information was right there.

All three submitters have approximately the same speed of generation. However, availability of the thumbnail creator in Mighty and Nova submitters captured my attention. It is a necessary thing because quality previews in TGP guarantee 70% of success and high rating in listing. Thumbnail creators are very useful, especially when there is a big choice of thumbnail sizes as in Mighty submitter. Thumbnail creators in both programs are very similar. Moreover, I was glad with simplicity and speed of making thumbnails. All-in-all, I would like to thank the developers of this small but very useful feature.

Submission process comes right after we filled out all the profiles, generated galleries and uploaded them. May be because I was working with GS submitter for so long or because I haven’t got used to the new features of other submitters yet, but in my opinion, GS submitter is the best in the speed of submission. All the process of posting takes about 10-15 minutes in this program. Some errors can occur during submission but they can be easily fixed.

The second place in the speed of submission I would give to the Nova submitter.

As for the Mighty one, it didn’t show any speed records but the submission process went very smoothly.

After submission, the confirmation process begins. GSS was the fastest in this process again. As for 2 other submitters, I didn’t find any pluses or minuses.

Upon performing this test, we denied the theory that all submitters are the same. We have tested three absolutely different programs and have seen three absolutely different approaches: GSS - Speed, Mighty - Quality, Nova- Simplicity and Convenience. I suppose that any of these submitters could make a slogan from my words because they show the main distinguish aspects of the programs. Sure thing is that it would be perfect to combine all of these features in one submitter and I see it coming in the future. With the help of this test I have finally chosen the most convenient submitter by defining the most important feature.
