Quashe from FreeOnes.
1. How long ago did your start in the adult industry? Was it as designer or webmaster running his own sites?
I started late 99 with submitting galleries. I was still at university and some guy (Bas, owner of ShemaleBucks.com) in my class taught me how to submit (shemale) galleries. At first I was skeptic about it, thinking “can you actually make money with this”, but when I received my first cheque I was like damn it IS working. The next 3 years I found myself submitting galleries every day and running some small tgps.
2. What made you give up freelance design work and get a managerial position at freeones.com?
It was the same reason why I stopped submitting galleries and started doing design work fulltime. I got bored. I had been designing full time for about 3 years in a row and as much as I love designing, I got bored at the end. Then FreeOnes made me an offer I couldn’t resist. I had been doing freelance design work for them and became personal friends with the owner (Maurice). One night while having some drinks at a bar he made me an offer. The original job offer was to work for FreeOnes as a designer though, but now the design only takes about 30% of the job. The rest of the time is mostly filled with taking care of the sponsors and working out new ideas.
3. How many people are involved with freeones.com and how much traffic it averages per day?
Right now there are seven people working fulltime in-house and about 10 remote all over the globe. We are still looking for more people specially programmers, but I think everybody is looking for them these days.
Currently we have 8,134 babe link sections (babes in database) and 91,175 links listed on FreeOnes. We recently passed the one million uniques daily on the main page alone which was basically one of our goals for the end of 2006. In total we have about 1,2 million uniques daily resulting in over 12 million clicks to our links every day. That’s only on FreeOnes itself though, we also have MyFreeOnes, Reviews.FreeOnes and Board.FreeOnes which all generate a nice extra stream of traffic.
4. When you are looking to promote the paysite of an affiliate program, what are the main characteristics you pay attention to?
The first thing I look at is the main tour; I try to look at it as a surfer to see if it would turn me on and if it does, the process starts. The first thing we often do is review the site first. That way we know what the visitor will get and we know how to promote it properly.
Another good extra is when a site has babes who are listed in the FreeOnes database, and the more known the better. In that case we can add hosted galleries to the matching babe section and throw some extra traffic at it.
5. Tell us about the freeones.com SnowGathering 2007. When and where does it take place and why we shouldn't miss it?
The upcoming SnowGathering will be a blast for sure. It will take place from the 7th till the 11th of March in Iceland (Reykjavik)! The best thing about the SnowGathering is the fact that it’s not as massive as a lot of other shows. Often you go to shows and meet way too many people to do some proper business. The smaller group at the SnowGathering gives you the ability to make some time for each other often resulting in a closer relationship between companies. 99% of the people who were at the show last year told us it was the best one they ever went to, so lets hope we can top that this year. Space is limited so register in time at www.snowgathering.com.
6. Have you considered selling gallery spots and/or traffic as an attempt to increase your revenues? What keeps you away from this?
Actually we are working on a system to sell add spots. We want to be able to track everything so it takes some time to implement this into our back-end. It will probably take some months before this will be possible, but in our opinion it’s important to do things well. Besides that we currently have no problem at all converting our own traffic which puts this upcoming feature a bit on the background with all the other running projects.
The same counts for submit passes. We are working on implementing it as we think it will increase the quality of FreeOnes even more.
7. You recently won DieselTravel contest by DieselAction and Freeones Rory attended. If you win again who's the next guy to attend?
Haha! I saw Rory’s pictures from that last trip and I think my girl would never let me go, so that would mean FreeOnes himself or one of the other employees would have to attend. Rory is still daydreaming about that trip, so thanks for that!
8. What percentage of your traffic goes to revshare programs and what to PPS?
Hard to tell, we have over 600 sponsor accounts in our database right now. About 400 of them are CCbill accounts, but I would say it’s about 50/50 right now.
9. What are the requirements for a girl to appear in your t-shirt? Are these paid shootings or it's a mutual agreement between the company you represent and models?
We have a few sets we paid for, but in 99% of the shoots we have the agreement with the program to just use it to promote their website. This makes perfect sense in my opinion, the model gets some nice attention and a good chunk of traffic to her site making it a win/win situation.
There are basically no requirements for a model to do a shoot. There is a market for everything and, thank god, there are a lot of different tastes in this world.
10. What are your thoughts on cross sales and aggressive billing?
Never been a fan of both. Cross sales wouldn’t be a problem if the surfer would be notified properly but sadly enough they hardly read anything. When they are horny they just want to jerk off resulting in pre-checked cross sales not being noticed and the surfer being fucked.
I think you see a lot less aggressive billing being done lately, as a result of the surfer knowing how to chargeback and the visa chargeback ruling. Companies who used to screw over their surfers now come clean or close down which is a good thing.
What it comes down to is: what are your goals. If you are in it for the long term like us than just be honest to your surfers, you will see it works out better. Come up with a good product and in the long run you will be the one surviving this game.
11. Which is the most popular pornstar in our days? Is Jenna Jameson still the undisputable queen? You are the expert on this field.
When I check our back-end on the amount of searches in 2006 per model I see Briana Banks is on top of the list and Jenna is 2nd. The stats are a bit off as it depends on who we promote more on the main page, but I think it is safe to say Jenna is still the number one.
12. What's your position on adware traffic?
Adware traffic and all types of traffic stealing is bad for our industry for sure. With the resent flood of Zango threads on the boards we are also looking into solutions to stop this in some way.
13. Where do you see yourself in few years from now?
Hard to say as right now I love my job. FreeOnes gives me the opportunity to get in touch with so many aspects of the business and I think it’s an everyday learning experience. So until I get bored again, I think I am on my place over here for the next few years.
14. If you are asked to thank only one person from this industry, which one would that be?
Bas, the owner of shemalebucks.com and our current traffic manager, who got me into this business. Without him, I probably would have finished school and have a boring office job right now lol. Thanks Bas!
